Senior Pastor - Reverend Clifford A. Bahlinger (Cliff)
Cliff Bahlinger, wife Lisa and daughters Sophia and Linnea, live in the Cordova area. The Bahlingers moved from St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Decatur, Ga., where he served for nine years. During that time, the dying, inner-city church was transformed into a vibrant, dynamic multiethnic congregation, meeting the needs of young families and singles.
Pastor Bahlinger brings with him a desire not only to reach the un-churched, but also to re-energize the saints with his lively, relevant preaching, and to reach out into the community. One goal is to begin a Sunday evening youth service, incorporating a Christian rock sound.
His vision for the church includes making St. Luke's facility available to the community for meetings and events, seven days a week. He hopes to expand the youth and children's ministries, offer varied forms of worship, encourage the formation of small groups, continue the mission work of the church and reach out to the un-churched. "I'm a Lutheran by choice," says Pastor Bahlinger, who was reared in the Roman Catholic faith. He embraced the beliefs of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America while at LSU. "I joined because of the church's emphasis on grace and the priesthood of all believers."
He is also "a Southerner by choice." Pastor Bahlinger said he chose Memphis as a place to minister because he enjoys working with people from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. "I like Memphis. I think it's a good place to be and to raise a family, and I feel blessed to be part of such a dynamic, motivated and inspired congregation."
Church Administrator - Becky Underwood
Becky is one of the "Voices" of St. Luke Church. She oversees a large volunteer staff to ensure that the many duties of the office are carried out in a timely and professional manner. St. Luke has been greatly blessed by her care for the members and her dedication to the financial and administrative duties of this position.
