Proverbs 13:23 “A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children.”
A letter from The Legacy Campaign Committee
St. Luke Lutheran Church is a special place. Perhaps it is where our children were baptized and confirmed. Maybe it is where they or even we got married. For some it is bittersweet because it is where the spirit of a spouse or other loved one was commended to the peace and comfort of our Lord and Savior. Whatever our story St. Luke has been there for us for over 30 years.
Our church is such a major part of our lives that many people wonder what they can do to have a lasting impact on its future. In the past there have been a number of significant Capital Campaigns that range from building the original church, adding the education and CFC wing, expanding the Narthex and more recently upgrading the sanctuary and adding the pavilion. Today we have a beautiful facility that not only serves our congregation but also a school, summer camp and many neighborhood organizations.
For years St. Luke leadership has talked about turning mortgage into ministry. But what does that really mean? Nearly 10% of the annual budget goes towards debt service. Exclude staff, property and social ministry expenses and this is as much as all of the remaining ministries combined. For a church noted for helping others and for its family atmosphere, imagine what we could do with these additional funds if they could be redirected to ministry. So this is the Legacy Campaign. A legacy is a gift handed down from the past and the best legacy that we can leave for each other and future saints is our beautiful facility unencumbered. Most of us still worship at St. Luke and will be direct beneficiaries of this campaign. However some of you have moved away but look upon St. Luke as your “home” church or where significant life events have taken place in your life. For whatever reason St. Luke, secured for the future, can add a special chapter to your story.
The link to the pledge card is on the right side of this page. The campaign’s target for payoff of the mortgage is December 2019. From September 2017 until December 2019 there are 28 months or 121 weeks. Pledge options are lump sum, annual, monthly or weekly payments. The pledge card has a table which shows various levels of donations by month or week and the resulting total pledge amount. Just turn in your card at the church as God leads you.
During August your campaign committee will work with the Finance committee to make envelopes available and to get Simply Giving set-up. This will be communicated further in This Week at St. Luke. If you wish to start your pledge giving earlier than September just note Legacy Campaign on your check and place it in the collection on Sunday or mail it to the office attention “Patti”. St. Luke is a special place. We have an opportunity to make sure that it is here for our children’s children and beyond. God is good, ALL THE TIME. Peace and Blessings, The Legacy Campaign Committee
