    Grocery Savings with OneHarvest

    1/20/2016

    Picture
St Luke Lutheran Church  has become a Partner Site with OneHarvest Food Ministries. The congregation and leadership are excited to bring this food ministry to this area so they may serve families by helping them save money on their monthly grocery budgets.

OneHarvest offers several choices of high quality, nutritious food boxes each month that are sure to satisfy appetites and budgets large and small alike.

There are no restrictions or limitations, anyone can order as many boxes as they like. The $37.50 Family Box will feed a family of four for about a week, or a single person for close to a month. For all the grill masters in the community, there are premium grill boxes available that include USDA select T-bone steaks, choice cut USDA sirloin steaks and choice cut pork chops. There are typically seven to eight different food boxes available every month. All of the food boxes are pre-packed and distributed frozen once a month.

Pastor Cliff Bahlinger states, “We are excited about providing quality food and lowering food costs. I have personally used OneHarvest Food Ministries and have been impressed with the quality, ease of ordering and pick up. We can all use a break in cutting costs and OneHarvest is good place to start."

For more information about OneHarvest and St Luke Lutheran Church or to place an order please contact St Luke Lutheran at stluke@stlukememphis.org. You can also take a look at the menu or place an order with your credit or debit card at www.oneharvest.com.

OneHarvest started in June 2010 and is currently available in 14 states.  If your church or organization is interested in becoming a partner with OneHarvest please visit their website at www.oneharvest.com.

National Civil Rights Museum Tour - Jan 16

    1/14/2016

    Picture
St. Luke Group Tour of The National Civil Rights Museum, located at the Lorraine Motel, the assassination site of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., chronicles key episodes of the American civil rights movement and the legacy of this movement to inspire participation in civil human rights efforts globally, through our collections, exhibitions, and educational programs.

St. Luke has scheduled a self-guided tour at 10A on Saturday, January 16. Group rates are $13 for Adults, $10 for Children (4-17), and $11 for Seniors (55+). The museum is located at 450 Mulberry Street in Memphis. Please arrive a few minutes early so we can enter as a group together.

The National Civil Rights Museum works to establish an open discussion on the ideas of racism, discrimination, freedom and civil rights. Due to the sensitive nature of some materials, the museum recommends visitors who are 12 years or older.

After the tour, which takes about two hours, all are invited to Central BBQ downtown for lunch and discussion on how we can combat racism in our day and time. Rev. Lonnie Branch, our special speaker for MLK Day Services, will be our guest for the tour and lunch.

Second Sunday After Epiphany - Jan 17

The Sundays after Epiphany continue to celebrate the revelation of the glory of God to us as it was made known to the magi and to those on Jordan’s banks at the baptism of Jesus—today using wedding imagery. Our God rejoices over God’s people “as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride.” By the power of the Spirit there are gifts galore for everyone. In Christ Jesus the best wine is saved for last. Taste and see.

This is also when we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Read more.

Third Sunday After Epiphany - Jan 24

The glory of the Lord is revealed in the reading of scripture. People stand at attention. People weep. People prostrate themselves in prayer. The unity of the church is another reflection of the glory of God. Most gloriously, the promises of God are fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ. Gather round. Listen up. Glimpse the glory of God.

McKenna Duncan will be a guest speaker this week.

Fourth Sunday After Epiphany - Jan 31

The glory of God is often revealed when and where it is least expected. God uses our lips to declare that glory, inexperienced and hesitant though they may be. God uses our love to demonstrate that glory and so urges us to exercise it. God uses Jesus of Nazareth, water and the word, bread and wine, to reveal God’s glory where and when God chooses. Take heed, lest the glory of God slip through our midst unnoticed.

Paul White will be our guest preacher this week while Pastor Cliff is out of town.

    Here at St Luke ...

We seek God. We are a church that seeks to express our love for God in all that we do - with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30).
We serve others. The St. Luke church family has a heart to serve the community, loving each other just as God has loved us (John 13:35).
We share our lives together. No one here is perfect - we are all ordinary people who gather together to worship God, grow spiritually, and put our faith into action (James 2:15).
