    Grocery Savings with OneHarvest

    1/20/2016

    Picture
St Luke Lutheran Church  has become a Partner Site with OneHarvest Food Ministries. The congregation and leadership are excited to bring this food ministry to this area so they may serve families by helping them save money on their monthly grocery budgets.

OneHarvest offers several choices of high quality, nutritious food boxes each month that are sure to satisfy appetites and budgets large and small alike.

There are no restrictions or limitations, anyone can order as many boxes as they like. The $37.50 Family Box will feed a family of four for about a week, or a single person for close to a month. For all the grill masters in the community, there are premium grill boxes available that include USDA select T-bone steaks, choice cut USDA sirloin steaks and choice cut pork chops. There are typically seven to eight different food boxes available every month. All of the food boxes are pre-packed and distributed frozen once a month.

Pastor Cliff Bahlinger states, “We are excited about providing quality food and lowering food costs. I have personally used OneHarvest Food Ministries and have been impressed with the quality, ease of ordering and pick up. We can all use a break in cutting costs and OneHarvest is good place to start."

For more information about OneHarvest and St Luke Lutheran Church or to place an order please contact St Luke Lutheran at stluke@stlukememphis.org. You can also take a look at the menu or place an order with your credit or debit card at www.oneharvest.com.

OneHarvest started in June 2010 and is currently available in 14 states.  If your church or organization is interested in becoming a partner with OneHarvest please visit their website at www.oneharvest.com.

    Lifeblood - November 15, 2015

    11/9/2015

    Picture
Lifeblood will be at St. Luke on November 15 from 8:30A—1:00P in the CFC.

Lifeblood is the Memphis region's only non-profit volunteer blood center, dedicated to meeting the needs of patients, healthcare facilities, medical professionals and the community at large. Every year Lifeblood supplies more than 100,000 units of blood and blood products for local patient transfusion.

Because Memphis is the eighth largest medical center in the United States and hosts the second busiest trauma center in the nation, the need for blood is constant. Unfortunately, over one-third of our blood supply is currently being imported from other volunteer blood centers throughout the country.

The donation process only takes about one hour and takes place entirely at St. Luke. Each donation of whole blood can help as many as 3 recipients - all of them our neighbors.

A sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board outside the office. Please contact Jon Klein (jdklein18@gmail.com, 574-250-2597), the St. Luke Lifeblood Coordinator, with any questions.

Habitat for Humanity - September & October

    9/13/2015

    Picture
Since 1983, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis has served more than 430 local families through its new home ownership program. In 2012, Memphis Habitat expanded its mission and launched its Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative in the Uptown neighborhood near downtown Memphis. The affiliate will build 50 new homes and complete 100 critical repair projects in Uptown, and to date, 26 new homes have been built and work has been completed on more than 75 commercial and historic properties and single-family homes.

Beginning this fall, we are turning our attention to a new neighborhood, Ruby Estates, located at Holmes and Weaver. We plan to build 54 new homes in this area with the first seven slated for construction this fall. St. Luke's contribution to this year's build will allow us to turn an abandoned lot, which often invites crime and other unwanted activity, into a neighborhood asset and a home for a deserving family.

St. Luke has two Saturday work days this year:

    September 26, 2015
    Roofing & Framing
    Begin siding

    October 10, 2015
    Siding
    Interior/Exterior painting

We will have a representative from Habitat at both services on September 20.  They will also be available during the Sunday School hour to answer any questions you may have.

If you have any questions, please contact John Wadovick.

    Here at St Luke ...

We seek God. We are a church that seeks to express our love for God in all that we do - with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30).
We serve others. The St. Luke church family has a heart to serve the community, loving each other just as God has loved us (John 13:35).
We share our lives together. No one here is perfect - we are all ordinary people who gather together to worship God, grow spiritually, and put our faith into action (James 2:15).
