WHAT OUR VISITORS CAN EXPECT
What is the difference between the Traditional and Contemporary Services?
- Contemporary Worship Service at 08:30 am
- The Contemporary service follows an informal liturgy with congregational singing led by the Praise Choir and inspirational sermons. For better viewing and participation, the Message, Scripture and song texts are displayed on a large screen by a video projection system.
- Traditional Worship Service at 11:00 am
- The traditional service follows the "Evangelical Lutheran Worship Book" (the "red book" or "ELW"). Everything you need in order to follow the service is in the printed bulletin. You will hear Scripture readings and inspirational sermons. Musical performances may be provided by one of our adult or children’s choirs, soloist, or handbell choir.
- Worshipers at St. Luke wear anything from jeans and tee shirts, to slacks and golf shirts, to suits and ties. Please wear whatever you feel is most comfortable for you in this setting.
- We provide a nursery for children from ages 0 – 3 years of age. (Ask the ushers to direct you to the nursery)
- Activity bags are available in the narthex for children over 3 years of age who are too old for the nursery. Children are especially welcome to participate in the children's message during both the contemporary and traditional services.
- We certainly do not expect or require visitors to put anything in the offering plate, though you are welcome to do so if you choose.
- All baptized Christians, who believe that Christ is truly present in the Sacrament, are welcome to share this meal.
- The contemporary service normally has communion by intinction where you receive the bread in your hands and then dip the bread into the chalice of wine.
- The traditional service normally has communion by the common cup or by individual glasses that may be filled with either wine or grape juice. Grape juice is available as an alternative to wine. Simply ask the server for grape juice.
- If you choose not to commune, you are invited to come forward for a pastoral blessing.
- You may pause for prayer and then return to your pew by the side aisle.
- If you wish to take communion but are unable to walk to the front of the church, notify the usher and a server will bring the bread and wine to you where you are seated.
